Multi-channel high-speed ADC system

EMCOMO Solutions supplies high-performance computer systems for laser control

For a laser control application in the semiconductor industry EMCOMO Solutions supplied a high-performance 24-channel high-speed ADC computer system. The 24 ADC-channels are implemented on 6 FPGA carrier boards with 4 ADC-channels 2.7 GSPS @ 12 bit each. 

As the 24 ADC channels have to be highly snychronous a clock distribution module has been developed by EMCOMO which supplies 2 x 6 channels phase coherent clocks with 2.7 GHz and 100 MHz for the ADC modules.

EMCOMO also developed the FPGA IP-Cores for detecting and analyzing the laser signals as well as the Linux based Software for accessing the results of the analysis from the FPGAs via Gigabit Ethernet.

In addition EMCOMO developed laser detector units which supply the analogue signals for the control application to the ADCs.

The system is built of the following components:

  • Air-cooled MicroTCA system 19“, 5U with 12 single-width, full-size AMC-slots, 1000W AC power supply and advanced clock redundancy
  • MCH (system controller) with fully managed Gigabit Ethernet switch, PCIe switch, Stratum-3 clock and JTAG virtual probe for FPGA IP-core development
  • x86 Core-i7 CPU board
  • 500GB SATA SSD on carrier board
  • 6 Xilinx Kintex Ultrascale FPGA boards with 4 ADC channels 2.7 GSPS @ 12 bit each
  • Clock Distribution Module with 2x 6-channel synchronous clock (2.7GHz / 100MHz)
