3U Processor VPX Board, Layerscape LX2160A with PCIe/40G/10G/1G

A VPX CPU board is a rugged plug-in computer board that provides the main processing capability in a VPX chassis.

It typically contains:

  • A processor, such as Intel, AMD, Arm, or Power Architecture
  • RAM
  • Flash or SSD storage
  • Ethernet and PCI Express interfaces
  • Management and monitoring circuitry
  • Front-panel ports for USB, serial, display, or networking
  • VPX backplane connections for communicating with FPGA, GPU, storage, and I/O boards

Description:

VPX705 is a Layerscape Processor in 3U form factor based on the NXP LX2160A (16-core) processor. The Module provides on P1 connector on ports 0-7 x8 PCIe Gen3 or dual x4 PCIe Gen3 on ports 0-7.  Further on the P1 connector the module has eight reconfigurable SERDES that are routed to ports 8-15. Below are some examples of the SERDES configuration:

  • Dual PCIe x4 Gen3
  • x4 GbE with PCIe x4 Gen3
  • x4 10GBASE-KR with PCIe x4 Gen3
  • x8 GbE
  • PCIe Gen3 x4 with x4 10GBASE-KR
  • x4 10GBASE-KR with x4 GbE
  • x8 10GBASE-KR
  • PCIe x4 Gen3 with PCIe x2 Gen3 with 2x GbE
  • Dual 40GBASE-KR4

The module includes 32 GB of DDR4 memory with ECC, SDHC Socket, 64 MB SPI flash, 512 KB I2C flash, 8 GB of eMMC and 1TB NVMe storage.

The VPX705 can host an XMC module which interfaces to the host processor thru PCIe x4 Gen3. The XMC I/Os are routed to the backplane per VITA 46.9 as P2W4-X12s+X8d+X12d. The module also routes RS-232 from management, dual RS-232 and dual RS-422 from host, a USB 3.0/2.0 and a dual GPIO I/O’s (+5V) to P2. The RS485/RS422 termination and slew rates are software configurable.

The VPX705 routes the two VPX backplane clocks to the GPIO of the Processor.

The CPU has Secure Boot capabilities form power-on and hard reset.
